History of Alano Club of Rockford, IL. Founded Oct. 31 1949. Prior to obtaining these club rooms (third floor of Angus Jewelry, 118 W. State St.) the AA meetings were held in the Blackhawk Housing Community building on 15th Ave. for the East sider's and the West sider's met in Mary Young's basement. Wednesday night's there was a open meeting in the Faust Hotel. Saturday night socials were held for over a year in the Labor Temple (S. 1st St). Figuring the cost of rentals for these rooms it was decided to look for club rooms. A committee was setup to find a suitable place. Consideration to rent the third floor of the B&G building on North Water Street; they were to big, and the ones we looked at on East State Street were too small. On October 19th, 1949 at a AA meeting room at the Faust Hotel the officers were elected. Four men went down to the bank and borrowed $500.00 on a note, which was deposited in the bank in the name of "The Alano Club". On Saturday, October 22nd, 1949 Harold Peterson, President. Harold Jensen, vice president, & Mary Young secretary-treasure met in the office of Judge Stuart Hordquest and proceeded with the incorporation of Alano Club of Rockford IL. The certificate of incorporation was recorded on October 31st, 1949. The purpose of this Club is to provide club rooms for and to work in conjunction with AA. In 1962 we saved enough money to make a down payment on the building at 2318 So. Main Street Rockford, IL. (just So of 15th Ave bridge on the Rock River.) The Central Group is the oldest AA group in Rockford (Start So. Main.- present 1210 11th st.). The 25th Anniversary was held October 10th 1974 at the Tebala Towers Grand Ballroom (formerly the Faust Hotel). The 50th Anniversary was held at are 3rd location 4747 W, Riverside Blvd. Rockford, The 60th Anniversary was held November 14th, 2009 at are 4th location 1210 11th Street. Today we have 98 members, over 40 AA meetings a week. Social events include: Dances, Sunday Breakfast 8 til 9:30 am, Children's Christmas party, Free Thanksgiving & Christmas Day Dinner, Alano Club of Rockford.
