History of Alano Club of Rockford, IL. Founded Oct. 31 1949. Prior to obtaining these club rooms (third floor of Angus Jewelry, 118 W. State St.) the AA meetings were held in the Blackhawk Housing Community building on 15th Ave. for the East sider's and the West sider's met in Mary Young's basement. Wednesday night's there was a open meeting in the Faust Hotel. Saturday night socials were held for over a year in the Labor Temple (S. 1st St). Figuring the cost of rentals for these rooms it was decided to look for club rooms. A committee was setup to find a suitable place. Consideration to rent the third floor of the B&G building on North Water Street; they were to big, and the ones we looked at on East State Street were too small. On October 19th, 1949 at a AA meeting room at the Faust Hotel the officers were elected. Four men went down to the bank and borrowed $500.00 on a note, which was deposited in the bank in the name of "The Alano Club". On Saturday, October 22nd, 1949 Harold Peterson, President. Harold Jensen, vice president, & Mary Young secretary-treasure met in the office of Judge Stuart Hordquest and proceeded with the incorporation of Alano Club of Rockford IL.
